Description
This is an amazing piece. It is a handbill created by the Germans who were occupying France after the Allied D-Day invasion. Basically the handbill says that the the British-American money (Allied Military francs) is no good. Furthermore, the handbill is printed in color which was unusual in 1944 during the war. Now for the really amazing thing. The 5 franc note on the handbill does NOT HAVE the Forbes printer's mark! Somehow the Germans realized that the mark was there and for some reason decided remove it for the reproduction. I do not know if you will be able to see this in the ebay image, but the omission if very clear on the original. A few other handbill designs were created. They are all very popular with collectors and are scarce to rare. This version in color is by far the most important and popular. You can read more about this and other leaflets inWorld War II Remembered
by Schwan and Boling (if you do not know about this book you should ask me). Approximate size is 23x16cm.
